Cornish Tea & Coffee brings its renegade spirit to the coffee equipment industry with Wendougee UK expansion
Established Cornish business takes on commercial coffee giants with £1 million of its own investment, bringing international technology to the UK and building a national operation from Cornwall.
An established Cornish tea and coffee business is taking on some of the biggest names in commercial coffee equipment, bringing international technology to the UK and proving that Cornwall can compete with the industry’s global heavyweights.
Cornish Tea & Coffee, based near Looe, has secured a UK partnership with international coffee equipment brand Wendougee, marking a major new chapter for the independent business and its ambitions to shake up the commercial coffee market.
The expansion is backed by £1 million of the company’s own investment in its first year, demonstrating its confidence in Wendougee and its commitment to building a significant presence in the UK.
The investment will support the introduction of Wendougee’s commercial espresso machines and grinders, including the SDragon and DMantis espresso machines and the Ares grinder.
Plans are also underway to establish dedicated coffee technology showrooms and demonstration centres in Cornwall, London and Manchester. The London and Manchester locations are currently in development and will provide hospitality businesses across the country with opportunities to experience Wendougee equipment first-hand.
While the expansion will establish a national presence, Cornwall will remain the beating heart of Wendougee’s UK operation, with leadership, engineering expertise, technical support and operational infrastructure driven from the company’s Cornish headquarters.
A renegade spirit, built into the business
Cornish Tea & Coffee has never been content to simply follow the crowd. From its early days challenging established names in the tea and coffee industry, the business built its reputation on doing things differently, questioning convention and taking an independent approach in markets dominated by major brands.
That renegade spirit remains central to the company today.
Having spent more than a decade building an established tea, coffee and hospitality business, Cornish Tea & Coffee is now bringing that same attitude to commercial coffee equipment.
The Wendougee partnership is a natural extension of its roots: recognising an opportunity, backing its own judgement and being prepared to challenge the established players.
Duncan Bond, Managing Director of Cornish Tea & Coffee, said:
“Cornish Tea & Coffee has always had a bit of a renegade spirit. When we started out, we were challenging established brands and doing things our own way. That attitude has never really left us.
“We’ve spent years looking for the right coffee equipment for our customers, and when we discovered Wendougee, we recognised an opportunity that was much bigger than simply finding another machine supplier.
“We’re putting £1 million of our own investment behind this because we believe in the brand, the technology and what we can build together.
“We know what it takes to compete with the big names. We’ve done it before, and we’re ready to do it again. We’re not here to follow the market or play second fiddle. We’re here to challenge it.”
Building from Cornwall, competing nationally
The expansion will build on Cornish Tea & Coffee’s established engineering capabilities, technical expertise and hospitality customer relationships, creating a platform for national growth while keeping Cornwall firmly at its centre.
As the operation develops, the company aims to create skilled employment and career opportunities across engineering, technical support, sales, marketing and training, with a particular focus on helping the next generation build ambitious careers in Cornwall.
Founded in 2012, Cornish Tea & Coffee has grown into an established supplier serving retail, hospitality and foodservice customers across the UK and internationally.
The Wendougee partnership represents a significant investment in the company’s future and a statement of intent for an industry traditionally dominated by international manufacturers.
Cornwall is not simply where the business is based. It is where the next challenge to the coffee industry begins.
